TEHRAN (IQNA) – The activities of the Noor (light) Convoy dispatched to neighboring Iraq to organize Quranic programs in the Arbaeen season have concluded, the head of the convoy said.

Iran’s Arbaeen Quranic Convoy Wraps Up Programs in Iraq

Masoud Mojani told IQNA that the last program was held in the holy city of Karbala on Sunday evening.

It included recitation of the Quran and supplications and a ceremony to bid farewell to the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS), he stated.

A number of Iranian and Iraqi qaris were also honored at the ceremony, Mojani noted.

He said members of the Quranic convoy organized more than 300 Quranic programs for Arbaeen pilgrims during their 9-day stay in Iraq.

The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.

It marks the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS). This year’s Arbaeen fell on September 17.

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

The pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to the holy city.

Every year, members of Iran’s Noor Convoy perform different Quranic and religious programs, including recitation of the Quran, Adhan (call to prayers), and Tawasheeh on the road between Najaf and Karbala during the Arbaeen march.
