-- Iranian director Behruz Afkhami has held initial talks with the custodian of the library of the late Ayatollah Shahaboddin Mar’ashi Najafi over his new documentary on the place.
“I previously had some information about scientific and cultural activities of the library. However, today I paid a visit to the rich collection for the first time,” the director said.

Afkhami has been also allowed to make use of the library’s facilities like negatives and file photos in producing his work.

The documentary will also shed light on the aspects of the late Mar’ashi Najafi’s sublime characteristics from viewpoints of scholars and scientific figures, he added.

Ayatollah Mar’ashi Najafi Library, the third biggest in the Islamic world, is home to Islamic manuscripts of more than 1,000-year age, say, the oldest copies of the Psalms and Nahj-ul-Balagha of Imam Ali (AS).
The library is comprised of “manuscripts and books repairs section”, “manuscripts researchers section”, micrograph center equipped with image and print laboratory, book hospital, and two book repositories with a capacity of 150,000 volumes each.

Afkhami also has other work “The Morning Son” in post-production stage. The movie mostly highlights the childhood of the late Imam Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Revolution.

Afkhami is an old hand at historical projects, having proved himself in the TV series “Kuchak-e Jangali” as well as in “World Champion Takhti”, a film he completed after the death of original director Ali Hatami.

He has also directed several hits, including “The Bride”, “The Day of the Angel”, “The Day of Satan”, and “Hemlock”.
