-- Establishment of special centers for teaching Quran memorization and recitation in the Islamic Republic of Iran led to the development of the country’s Quranic talents, said Syria’s deputy Mufti.
Speaking to IQNA on Iran’s Quranic achievements since the victory of the Islamic revolution, Sheikh Dr. Allaudeen Zatari said that Iranian Quran reciters are now among the Islamic world’s eminent reciters winning top titles in the international competitions.
“After the revolution, Iranian authorities placed a high priority on developing the Quranic culture and teachings. Ever since, the Quran and its tenets have been the basis of Iran’s strategic policies,” he said.
He referred to the giant steps taken by Iran to foster the Quranic culture as an outstanding achievement. [As a result of these steps] “a great number of Iranian children learn the holy Quran by heart and understand its lofty concepts. This is a Quranic miracle and other countries in the Islamic world like Syria and Lebanon are also benefiting from the blessings of Iranians’ efforts.”
He highlighted the role of the late founder of the Islamic Republic in promoting the Quran and said, “It was the late Imam Khomeini who first embarked on this Quranic path and inspired Iranians to serve the Divine book.”
Asked on how successful Iran has been in creating a strong bond between politics and the teachings of the Quran, Sheikh Zatari stated, “Politics is the art of managing the society. Only when a society is run based on Quranic tenets, can its government be considered an Islamic government. The Islamic Republic of Iran has proven to have a government which acts in accordance with Quranic principles. That is the secret behind the strength and might of the Islamic Republic.”
He also praised Iran’s efforts in holding international Quran contests, festivals and exhibitions. “The Quranic events organized in Iran play a great role in strengthening solidarity among followers of different Islamic schools of thought and boosting Islamic unity and fraternity.”
Development of Quranic e-education, printing the Quran, and translating the holy book into various languages were among other activities in Iran highlighted by the Syrian scholar. He said that translating the Divine book is of paramount importance as it helps to acquaint speakers of different languages with the word of God. Dr. Zatari, however, stressed that religious scholars and Quran experts ought to oversee the translations in order to make sure that Quranic concepts are accurately rendered into other languages.

Sheikh Dr. Allaudeen Zatari is the deputy of Syria’s grand Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun. He is a lecturer at Sheikh Ahmad Kuftaro University in Damascus and also teaches Quranic sciences at a number of Lebanese universities.
