Islamic Unity Conference Discusses Reasons behind Sectarianism

-- The Islamic unity conference seeks to investigate the reasons behind sectarianism and present logical and reasonable solutions to it based on the Holy Book and the Sunnah, secretary general of the Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought said this morning.
Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri was addressing the 23rd international Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran.
He thanked the participants for attending the event and said, “Holding regional and international conferences like this is among the activities of the forum which aim to strengthen the culture of Islamic unity and fraternity and promote proximity among Islamic sects.”
He said that since its establishment, the Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought has sought to closely study important issues in the Islamic world and present solutions for religious, political and cultural disputes based on the Noble Quran and the Sunnah (tradition) of the holy Prophet (PBUH).
Ayatollah Taskhiri added that the forum has organized some 1000 unity conferences at different levels, published hundreds of books and magazines and established a research center in Qom with the aim of promoting Islamic unity.
The 23rd Islamic unity conference kicked off in Tehran Tuesday morning. Attended by 150 thinkers and scholars from 48 countries, the theme of the three-day conference is “Islamic Ummah, from religious diversity to sectarianism.”
