Ghazi Huniana, who attended the 23rd international Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran, said there is a wide gap between theorizing and drafting unity charters and putting them into effect. “A unity charter was passed in Tehran and another one in Makkah but none of them have so far been implemented,” he regretted.
He called on Islamic governments, scholars, preachers and thinkers to strive for strengthening unity in the Islamic Ummah by implementing and promoting the unity charters.
Mr. Huniana, who is also a leader of the Amal Islamic Front in Lebanon, added that religious occasions, including the holy month of Ramadan, are good opportunities for scholars and preachers for clarifying for the people the concepts discussed in unity charters and by doing so foster such concepts as dialogue, understanding, fraternity, solidarity and unity.
Stressing that followers of all Islamic schools of thought are brothers, Mr. Huniana slammed those who issue Takfir Fatwas (declaring followers of other Islamic sects as apostates) and said such Fatwas are a blow to the heart of Islamic unity at a times when the Islamic Ummah is under attack by the global arrogance in countries like Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia, and Lebanon.
The 23rd international Islamic Unity Conference was held in Tehran from March 2-4 with the presence of 150 scholars and thinkers from 48 countries.
