The station, operating from Pusat Islam (Islamic Centre) here, will undergo a one-month trial run from 3pm till midnight on Monday to Thursday and from noon till midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, starting Nov 1.
With the tagline "Segalanya Bermula di Sini" (Everything Starts Here), the free-to-air television station will focus on programs for children, teenagers, and men and women below the age of 40.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is scheduled to launch the terrestrial television station on Dec 7.
The station is owned by Al Hijrah Media Corporation; a company incorporated under the Prime Minister's Department, and is led by its chief executive officer, Bukhari Che Muda.
Introducing the new television station Monday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said at the initial stage, the government had allocated RM60 million to fund the operation of the television station.
When asked whether Al Hijrah would become a strong competitor to the other television stations, Jamil Khir said it preferred to be recognized as another alternative for viewers in the country.
He said local programs would make up 60 per cent of the content on TV-Al Hijrah, while the rest would be foreign content from Iran, Indonesia, Turkey and the Netherlands.
TV-Al Hijrah will broadcast under Ultra High Frequency (UHF). In the Klang Valley, the UHF channel is 55 (743.25MHz), Terengganu 41 (631.25MHz), Johor 40 (623.25MHz), and Sabah and Sarawak 37 (599.25MHz).
