Makkah to Host Int’l Quran Competition

-- Saudi Arabia’s 32nd International Holy Quran Competition is slated o kick off tomorrow, December 26, in the holy city of Makkah, Al-Iqtisadia daily reports.
The competition is annually organized by the country’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry in the categories of memorization, recitation and interpretation of the Quran.
It will be held at the Masjid-ul-Haram for the first time.
Secretary of the event Mansur bin Muhammad As-Samih has said that all preparations have been made for holding the contest.
He added that 122 contenders representing 38 countries as well as 66 contenders representing 26 Islamic institutes will be present at the competition.
According to Mr. As-Samih, the contest is aimed at promoting friendship and fraternity among Islamic countries’ youth as well as encouraging the youth to pay more attention to memorization, recitation, and interpretation of the holy Quran.
Memorization of the entire holy Quran (along with Tajweed and interpretation), memorization of the entire holy Quran (along with recitation and interpretation), memorization of 20 consecutive Juzes (parts) of the Quran (along with recitation and Tajweed), memorization of 10 consecutive Juzes (along with recitation and Tajweed), and memorization of 5 consecutive Juzes (along with recitation and Tajweed) are the five categories of the contest.
