1st Int’l Quran Contest for The Mentally Disabled and Blinds to Be Held

-- Iran will host the first international competition on Quranic sciences to be held for the mentally disabled and blind people, managing director of Quranic Center for the Blinds in Esfahan said.
According to Ettehadieh website, noting that the competition will be held soon, Seyyed Morteza Nikzad said: “a meeting was held concurrent with the assembly of the union of Quranic foundations of the country near Jamkaran Mosque with the presence of Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, head of the Center for Coordination, Development and Dissemination of Quranic Activities and members of the board of directors of the union.”
“Besides the Quranic issues discussed at the meeting, publication of Quran copies in Braille was also stressed. A copy of such Qurans published by the Cultural Foundation of the Blinds in cooperation with the Center for Coordination, Development and Dissemination of Quranic Activities was presented to the minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance,” he added.
“The Quran copies are of two kinds, those with a translation by Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi published in 30 volumes each of them covers one part (Juz) of the Quran. The other kind is the copies published in 10 volumes, including 3 parts each, and without translation.”
He further regarded the Quranic activities of this group of people and said: “many opportunities have been provided for the mentally disabled and the blind people of the country after the victory of Islamic revolution and various Quranic institutes have been set up in this respect.”
Holding Quranic courses for the blinds and providing them with educational services, holding national and provincial contests for them and preparing them to attend other competitions held by Awqaf and other organizations are among the activities of the Quranic institutes established for these groups of people.
