Upholding justice is the second most important factor of maintaining security in society, the first one being deep religious faith.
This is according to Hojat-ol-Islam Abbas Ali Akhtari, Friday prayer imam of Shahr-e Rey, who referred to faith as the first and most important measure for security that can be manifested in both individual and social life.
Quoting Verse 82 of Surah 6 in the holy Quran, as saying: “Those who believe and do not mix their belief with injustice will have security, and they are guided.”, he highlight the significance of having absolute faith in God, the prophets, the Resurrection, the Sharia law, the Judgment Day, etc. as a prerequisite for achieving security.
“The first step of gaining perfect security is to have an unwavering belief in God, His Divine Book and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), and follow them in practice,” he went on to say, adding that the literal meaning of faith is securing beliefs and preserving creeds.
“Security in usage means that man is free to choose a goal and try to achieve that goal without being threatened by any kind of oppression; otherwise, he/she has no security to reach the end.”
Elaborating on the main measures of maintaining security, Hojat-ol-Islam Akhtari referred to faith in God, manifested in obeying the law and Divine orders, as well as justice which is, according to Martyr Motahari, defined as respecting the rights of every individual.
He further pointed to Verse 17 of Surah 57 in the holy Quran, as saying: “Know that God revives the earth after it was dead”, interpreting God’s reviving the earth as justice to be settled after the earth got dead because of oppressions.
“What has disturbed people’s security at the present time is the spread of injustice, unfair implementation of justice, unfair distribution of wealth, and not using minds and talents based on justice and meritocracy,” he noted.
