“Supervision on Islamic Banking in Iran and Other Countries” Workshop Held

A workshop titled “Supervision on Islamic Banking in Iran and Other Countries” was held today May 27 at IRIB International Conference Center (IICC) in Tehran.
Talking to IQNA, Sadeq Afshar, executive secretary of 22nd Annual Congress on Currency and Monetary Policies, also said that the workshop was attended by top bank officials, experts and supervisors of the Central Bank, economic experts, as well as MA and PhD students majoring in the field.
Seyyed Abbas Mousavian, associate professor in Islamic Culture and Thought Research Center and author of “Model for Usury-free Banking”, gave a speech at the event, he added.
“Supervision over banks has received much attention particularly since the deficiencies in banking system have been recognized responsible for the financial crisis in many countries over the past decade. As such, the increasing development of the banking network and its significant role in the process of economic growth as well as the continuation of productive activities and services requires a meticulous investigation of supervising procedures in the country’s banking system.”
Afshar went on to say that the workshop was primarily aimed at explicating the strong and weak points of the supervising process in the banking system using the viewpoints of experts especially in Islamic banking field.
“It featured different topics including the characteristics, priorities and objectives of the banking system; the experiences of Islamic and non-Islamic countries concerning religious supervision; Iran’s stand on religious supervision in the Central Bank and Stock Exchange; analysis of the existing challenges in this regard; as well as an ideal model of religious supervision for the country,” he further noted.
