Over a million pilgrims have entered the Kadhimiya area of Baghdad (where Imam Kadhim (AS) is buried) to mourn the Imam’s (AS) martyrdom anniversary.
According to Al-Alam news network, the streets leading to Kadhimiya, North of Baghdad, are filled with pilgrims coming from different provinces of Iraq and from other countries.
This is while tens of Shia pilgrims were martyred or wounded in this week’s terrorist attacks in Baghdad.
Iraq’s interior ministry reported that a terrorist attack in Baghdad on Wednesday led to martyrdom of 93 and injured 312 others. But that has not dissuaded the devoted mourners from going on pilgrimage to Kadhimiya.
Security forces are on high alert and hundreds of security forces have been deployed to streets and roads leading to Kadhimiya in order to ensure safety for the pilgrims.
The 25th of Rajab on the lunar Hijri calendar (which falls on June 16 this year) marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Moussa Kadhim, the 7th Shia Imam.
