10 Countries Attending Mauritania Int’l Quran Contest

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Mauritania’s international Quran competition, known as the presidential Quran award, began in the capital, Nouakchott, on Tuesday.

 

According to al-Siraj website, representatives from 10 countries, namely Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, Algeria, Senegal, Nigeria, Mali, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia are taking part in the contest.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mauritania’s Islamic Affairs and Education Minister Ahmed Ould Ahl Dawood said the competition is aimed at encouraging the youth to learn the Quran and follow its teachings.

The contest is annually organized on Quran memorization, interpretation and Tajweed principles.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.

Quranic activities and programs are very popular in the African country.
