Algeria Quran Competition Winners Awarded

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Winners of Algeria’s 16th international Quran competition were awarded at a ceremony in the capital of Algiers.

 

According to Anadolu Agency, the Grand Mosque in Algiers hosted the event on Friday night with a number of senior Algerian officials, including interim president Abdelkader Bensalah, in attendance.

Algerian Ahmed Harakat went home with the top prize.  The representative of Palestine was the runner up and Libya’s contender came third in the contest.

They received cash prizes of 1 million, 800,000 and 500,000 Algerian dinars, respectively.

Mohammad Hossein Behzadfar who competed for Iran in the international Quranic event did not win a rank.

The international competition had kicked off last Saturday with the participation of representatives of 50 Islamic countries as well Muslim minorities in several Western countries.

It is annually organized during the ten last nights of Ramadan.

Algeria is an Arab country in North Africa. Muslims make up about ninety-nine percent of the country’s population.
