TEHRAN (IQNA) –  A member of the executive council of Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement said Iran shattered the image of US might by targeting American bases in Iraq.

Speaking at a ceremony in a town in Southern Lebanon, Sheikh Nabil Qaouk said the missile strikes proved that Iran is up to countering the US.

On Wednesday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) targeted two American bases, including the US airbase of Ain al-Assad in Anbar province in western Iraq, after vowing to retaliate the US assassination of top Iranian anti-terror commander, Lt. General Qassem Soleimani.

“Tens of surface-to-surface missiles” were fired at the strategic airbase and the attack was later confirmed by the US officials.

General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the deputy commander of Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi (PMU), and a number of their entourage were killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad on January 3.

Sheikh Qaouk further said that the shedding of the blood of General Soleimani started the end of US forces’ presence in Iraq and the region.

“The US will have no place in the region anymore,” he added.
