TEHRAN (IQNA) – Chairman of Iran’s Assembly of Experts hailed the massive participation of Iranians in rallies marking the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, who is also the secretary of the Guardian Council, said on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic has managed to weather crises and tackle problems thanks to the great leadership and the support of the people.

He added appreciated the massive turnout in the rallies on Tuesday, saying it showed people’s loyalty to the Islamic Revolution’s values.

Ayatollah Jannati added that people’s participation in the upcoming elections is also important in order to disappoint the enemies.

Iran marked the anniversary of its 1979 Islamic Revolution on Tuesday.

Every year, millions of Iranians across the country observe ten days of celebrations marking the anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution that put an end to the monarchy of the US-backed Pahlavi regime in the country.

The day of Imam Khomeini’s return to Iran marks the beginning of the Ten Days of Dawn, which culminates with rallies on the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution on February 11.

The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 41 years ago, ending the 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.

The Islamic Revolution spearheaded by the late Imam Khomeini established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.

Iran’s parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections will be held simultaneously across the country on February 21.

There are currently 290 seats in the Iranian parliament, known as Majlis, elected by direct vote of people in nationwide election for four years.

The Assembly of Experts is a high-ranking body that elects and oversees the activities of the leader of the Islamic Revolution.

Members of the assembly are directly elected to office by people for an eight-year term. It holds biannual meetings to appoint a new chairman.
