TEHRAN (IQNA) – Seventeen national, regional and international conferences and many more cultural programs featuring Arbaeen are planned to be held this year, an official said.

Conferences Planned for Arbaeen

Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Ahmadi, who heads the cultural committee of Iran’s Arbaeen Central Headquarters, said the conferences will be organized in Iran, the Indian subcontinent, Europe, America and West Asia.

Representatives of other religions will take part in some of these events, he noted.

According to Ahmadi, all cultural programs planned for the Arbaeen season will be held under the health protocols.

Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Baghdad has decided to bar all foreign pilgrims from visiting Iraq for this year’s Arbaeen.
