TEHRAN (IQNA) – Falih al-Fayyadh, the chairman of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), said the Iraqi people adore martyr Qassem Soleimani.

Addressing a ceremony held in Tehran on Friday to commemorate Major General Soleimani and former PMU deputy chief Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, al-Fayyadh said the Iraqi nation and the PMU are still mourning the martyrdom of Hajj Qassem.

Highlighting the senior commander’s role in defeat of the Daesh terrorist group, he added that the Iraqi nation is indebted to Martyr Soleimani.

The ceremony was held at the University of Tehran to commemorate the first anniversary of the assassination of the Lt. General Soleimani and Al-Muhandis.

US terrorists assassinated IRGC Quds Force Commander Lt. General Soleimani and Iraqi PMU Deputy Commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis along with their companions, by targeting their vehicles outside the Baghdad airport on January 3, 2020.

The act of terror was carried out under the direction of the outgoing White House occupant, with the US Defense Department, the Pentagon, taking responsibility for the strike.

Both distinguished commanders were viewed by the world’s freedom-seeking people as the key figures in defeating Daesh, the world’s most notorious terrorist group, in the Middle East battles.
