TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said the country has been moving forward in the field of Quran recitation in recent years.

Addressing a ceremony held to honor selected veteran Quran activists, he said that in the past, “when we heard Quran recitations by some Egyptian Qaris, we would wish Iran could have such Qaris as well”.

Today, Iran has progressed well in this field and sometimes Iranian Quran reciters win international competition, the president added.

Iran has eminent Qaris who both have good voices and observe the rules of Tajweed well, Rouhani noted.

The presence of Iranian Qaris and Quran memorizers in international events is a source of honor, he said, adding that while the country has always maintained a major position in the fields of Quranic sciences and Tafseer (interpretation), it has only recently been actively participating in international Quran competitions.

Highlighting the development of Quranic activities in Iran since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, he said the number of Quran memorizers in the country was limited during the former regime but has now risen considerably.

Rouhani further stressed the need for benefiting the cyberspace capacities to promote Quranic activities.

Eighteen Quran activists, including memorizers, reciters, experts, researchers, calligraphers, and managers of Quranic institutes were honored at the ceremony.
