Social Media Users Hail Erdogan’s Choice of Translator in Biden Meeting
TEHRAN (IQNA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s move to choose a hijab-wearing interpreter in his recent meeting with US President Joe Biden has been praised by many social media users.
The translator is Fatima Kaoukji, a specialist in international relations, and she is the daughter of Marwa Kaoukji, the first veiled deputy in the Turkish parliament.
Her mother was banned from entering the Turkish parliament by then president Suleiman Demirel in 1999 and later her Turkish citizenship was revoked for wearing Hijab
Tweeters saw Erdogan’s choice of the translator as a message that from the Turkish president to those who hate Hijab.
They praised Erdogan for the move, saying it showed the enemies of Islam that they should respect others’ beliefs.
