TEHRAN (IQNA) – The spokesman of Iraq’s al-Nujaba resistance movement said the United States is in decline and the power of its competitors is growing.

Speaking in an Interview with Newsweek, Nasr al-Shammari explained the reasons for the entry of the movement into the war in Syria, citing evidence of a decline in American power and global influence, and describing the growing power of Washington’s competitors.

According to the Communication and Media Affairs Center of al-‎Nujaba in Iran‎, the American magazine Newsweek published a report on the return of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to the world stage in its latest issue, and in this regard, arranged an interview with Nasr al-Shammari, the official spokesman of the al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement.

Tom O’Connor, a senior writer of foreign policy for the popular weekly news magazine, described the Syrian central government’s return to the world stage as a defeat for the United States and, in return, a victory for the foes of the United States and called the al-Nujaba movement one of the main groups of the Islamic Resistance Axis and an ally of Damascus, which, like the Islamic Republic of Iran, has an anti-American approach.

According to Newsweek, Nasr al-Shammari, in describing the motives of the al-Nujaba movement to enter the Syrian war in 2013, referred to the crimes carried out by al-Qaeda and Daesh terrorists and said, “Our intervention in Syria was based on a radical decision, because the Muslim and Shia people of the region were under threat. You can imagine what would happen if these terrorist groups took control of Syria. God forbid!”

In another part of the conversation, he described the power and influence of the United States as in decline and said, “Internally, the United States today is no longer what it was before, and the main reason is the intransigent American policies that completely ignore the will of the peoples, their cultural heritage and their social fabric.”

The spokesman of al-Nujaba cited the mistrust for the peoples in the region, the continuous abandonment of allies and the complete disregard of the interests of the countries of the region before American interests as other proofs of the weakness of the United States.

Al-Shammari stressed that the United States’ competitors have also become more capable and adaptable, noting that the ability and strength of Russia, China and Iran is growing and their allies are confidently relying on some of them for their positions and support. These countries are loyal to their allies, without any assumptions or interference in the values of peoples or their social fabric.
