Oman Awqaf Ministry Says Quran Schools Will Go Online

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Oman’s Ministry of Awqaf (endowments) and Religious Affairs said studies in the Holy Quran schools affiliated to the ministry will be transferred to a distance education system through the Holy Quran education program, or the school’s capacity will be reduced to 50 per cent in each class.

Earlier it was announced that Friday prayers will be suspended in all mosques of the Sultanate of Oman for a period of two weeks, starting from January 23 to February 5, 2022.

A statement issued online by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs said: "Pursuant to the decisions of the Supreme Committee to deal with COVID-19 issued on Friday, January 21, 2022, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs would like to announce the following:

1- Non-holding of Friday prayers in the period between January 23, 2022, and February 5, 2022, and the continuation of holding the five daily prayers in mosques, provided that the number of worshipers does not exceed 50 per cent of the capacity, in accordance with the previously announced controls in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

2- Transferring studies in the Holy Qur’an schools affiliated to the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs to a distance education system through the Holy Qur’an education program, or reducing the school’s capacity to 50 per cent of the number of students in each class.

3- Reducing the number of employees who are required to come to workplaces in the ministry to 50 per cent of the total number of employees, provided that employees who are required not to come to workplaces perform the work entrusted to them by the remote work system.

4- The competent authorities in the ministry should put the above decisions into effect, and the religious supervisors of mosques and Holy Quran schools should directly follow up on the implementation of the decision.
