Khosravi Border Crossing to Officially Open Sunday for Iranian Pilgrims’ Trip to Iraq

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Khosravi border crossing between Iran and Iraq will reopen on Sunday to allow Iranian pilgrims to travel to the Arab country, an official said.

Hojat-ol-Islam Sohbatollah Rahmanipour, the Iranian Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization’s Atabat (Iraqi holy sites) deputy, made the remark in a visit to the border crossing to assess the equipment and infrastructures needed to serve the pilgrims using the border crossing to go to Iraq.

He said there are 58 gates in the Iranian side and 48 on the Iraqi side doing the borer control processes.

The cleric added that two batches of pilgrims will leave the border crossing for Iraq, marking its official reopening.

During the Arbaeen season next month, Iranian can make the pilgrimage to Karbala via this crossing, he went on to say.

Iraq closed its border crossings and suspended land trips two years ago due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Every year millions of Iranians go to the Arab country to visit the holy shrines of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS), including those in Najaf, Karbala, Samarra and Kadhimiya.
