TEHRAN (IQNA) – Kuwait’s international Quran competition will be organized again this year after three years.

Kuwait's Awqaf ministry

The Arab country’s Awqaf and Islamic affairs ministry said the 11th edition of the Quranic event will be held in October under the supervision of Sheikh Nawab Ahmed Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait.

The ministry said it will kick off on October 20 with the contenders competing in Quran memorization, recitation and Tajweed, Al-Watan reported.

Promoting Quran memorization, identifying top Quranic talents, and encouraging the Muslim and Arab Ummah to learn the science of Qara’at (styles of recitation) are among the objectives of the contest.

The ministry went on to say that organizing the competition signifies that Kuwait is an active country in Quranic fields.

The 10th edition of Kuwait’s international Quran competition, known as Kuwait Quran Award, was held in 2019,

Mohammad Yusuf Darvishi from Qazvin Province and Hamid Reza Moqaddadi from Razavi Khorasan Province represented the Islamic Republic of Iran in two of its categories.

In 2020 and 2021, Kuwait called off the Quranic event due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kuwait is a Muslim-majority Arab country in the Persian Gulf region.
