TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 36th edition of an annual Quran competition was inaugurated in ceremony in the city of Jos in central Nigeria.

The contest is held every year for Jos North local government area of Plateau state.

Addressing the opening ceremony, member-elect for Bassa/Jos-North Federal Constituency Muhammad Adam Alkali called on politicians to shun dirty politics and bitterness for the good of Nigerians.

“We must have unity of purpose. There should be forgiveness and tolerance amongst us,” he said.

Alkali, who was recently declared winner of the bye-election for Bassa/Jos-North Federal Constituency, said leadership belongs to Allah and He gives to whom he pleases at any time.

“We must shun malice and witch-hunt because of political differences. Politics is mere interest. Today, I may be in PRP and someone in APC; tomorrow we may all be together in one political party because of interest.

“Yes, there must be differences, but it should not be allowed to degenerate to hatred that will put the lives of our people in danger,” he said.

He said the glorious Quran has laid solid foundation, with many examples on how human beings should conduct their lives.

The guest speaker, Sheikh Mukhtar Adam, said politics is part of Muslim’s way of life and should be played according to the teachings of the Quran.

“The Quran is a complete way of life to each and every Muslim. It is a complete guide and so our politicians should be mindful of the fact that they will be asked to account for their deeds,” he stated.
