85-Year-Old Egyptian Teacher Says Children Should Start Learning Quran at Early Age

Sheikh Basyuni has spent almost 70 years of his life teaching Quran to children, according to Alwan al-Watan daily.

He says children should start learning the Quran at an early age, adding that five is a good age for embarking on memorization of the Holy Book.

At this age, whatever the children learn remains in their mind and so memorization is easier than in later years, he says.

Basyuni himself started learning the Quran at the age of eight with his grandfather’s encouragement.

He managed to memorize the entire Holy Book in two years.

Over the past 70 years, he has taught Quran to kids in one of the rooms in his house.

Many of those who memorized the Quran by attending his classes have now become Quran teachers, preachers, and university scholars.

The Holy Quran is the only religious Scripture that is memorized by its followers.

Innumerable persons in every Muslim community have memorized the Quran since the first day it was revealed.

The Quran has 30 Juzes (parts), 114 Surahs (chapters) and 6,236 verses.
