Iran Int’l Quran Competition: First Round Concludes
The panel of arbiters in the men and women sections of the contest will soon name the contenders who have qualified for the finals.
They had started the judgments in the northeastern holy city of Mashhad on January 13 by assessing the recorded files of performances by the contestants.
A total of 149 Quran reciters and memorizers from 80 countries, including 114 men and 35 women, took part in the first round.
The panel of judges in the men section included Quran experts like Nosratollah Hosseini, Reza Mohammadpour, Saeed Fayaz, Hamid Derayati and Mohammad Sadeq Nasrollahi.
There were also two foreign experts, Seyed Ahmad Ghaffari from Afghanistan and Ahmed Abdulbari from Iraq, serving in the panel, which was headed by Seyed Ali Sarabi.
The final stage in the men and women sections is slated to kick off on February 13, concurrent with the Day of Maba’ath (marking the appointment of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the last messenger of God).
The motto of this edition, like the previous one, is “One Book, One Ummah”, a testimony to the significance that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches to unity and fraternity among Muslim nations.
Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the international Quran contest with the participation of Quran activists from various countries.
The 38th edition, was held in March 2022 virtually due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.
