Ceremonies Held in Iran’s Holy Sites to Mark Laylat Al-Raghaib

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Ceremonies and religious rituals were organized at mosques and holy sites in Iran, including at the holy shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA) in Qom and Shah Cheragh (AS) holy shrine in Shiraz, to celebrate Laylat al-Raghaib, Islam’s blessed Night of Wishes.

Muslims traditionally recite a special set of prayers and read from the Holy Quran on this night, which is marked on the first Thursday of the lunar Hijri month of Rajab.

It is believed that every wish, request and hope will be fulfilled if asked for on Laylat al-Raghaib.

Raghaib comes from the root "reghabe" in Arabic, which means to desire, seek or tend toward.

It is said that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to fast on the first Thursday of Rajab and recite twelve rak’ats of prayers in six sets of 2 rak’ats between Maghrib prayer and Isha prayer.
