Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Shahriari made the remark in an address to the opening ceremony of the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran on Thursday.

Organized with the main theme of “Islamic Unity in the Thought of the Martyr Imam”, the international conference has been attended by prominent religious, scholarly and political figures from 40 countries.

Congratulating the guests and audience on the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the birthday of Imam Jafar Sadiq (AS), Hojat-ol-Islam Shahriari appreciated the presence of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and all the scholars and intellectuals present at this conference.

The necessity of Islamic unity has been manifested in the field of action, he said, adding that today, more than ever, a united Muslim Ummah is close to a union of Islamic Countries.

“Today, we are witnessing extensive and open exchanges between the countries of the region. There has been little time when such a sense of solidarity has been created between the countries of the region. Such close exchanges between regional countries show the improvement of the indicators of proximity and unity.”

Referring to the most important event of recent months, he said, “The most important event we faced in the past year was the war that the world-devouring America launched against the Iranian nation, but the key question is why the Ramadan War against Iran began and why did this war begin with the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Ummah?”

The Ramadan War has been imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran for more than six months, and the reason for this is that the global arrogance is concerned about Iran’s growing strength.

“The (global arrogance) cannot tolerate the existence of another power alongside it, because a strong Iran can be a model for all Islamic countries and the oppressed people of the world who rely on it and trust in God Almighty instead of relying on puppet powers, and such a model is considered a threat to American unilateralism.”

The official said that America was unable to achieve its goals because “we were able to become the leading regional power under the brilliant leadership of our martyred Imam. It was unable because our scientists were able to dare and step on the edge of technology and amaze the world.

He continued, “America was unable because we were able to acquire drones and strategic military equipment with the innovation of our youth. It was unable because our selfless soldiers and zealous military personnel were able to stand up to the largest army in the world and then paralyze American bases in the region and teach the world the lesson of freedom and resistance.”

Hojat-ol-Islam Shahriari emphasized that the recent war is not just a military war but a civilizational one and a historical turning point.

He went on to say that today, the necessity of Islamic unity has also emerged in the field of action, and Islamic countries, with the experience they have gained, have come to the certainty that the presence of America in the region is not one that guarantees security, but one that destroys opportunities and destroys security.

Shahriari continued, “Today, the countries of the region have become aware that the American bases were not established to secure the security of the Persian Gulf countries, but to secure America’s own interests in this region and to strike at the axis of resistance. They have also realized the fact that security will only be ensured by the countries of the region themselves.”

Referring to the holding of the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference, he said that now, after holding this conference 40 times, with God's help and the bravery of the Mujahideen in the Cause of Allah, the discourse of Islamic proximity and unity has overcome the discourse of Takfir and division, and those opposing this proximity have been pushed to the margins of the Islamic world.
