Cairo Meeting Discusses ‘Prophet of Mercy in Mirror of Persian Poetry’

It was attended by a group of young professors of Persian language and literature from Egyptian universities.

In an interactive atmosphere, the participants examined the manifestations of devotion to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in poetry, music, and cultural rituals of Iran and Egypt.

In the first part of this session, which was held thanks to the efforts of the Iranian Cultural Center in Egypt, the participants selected verses from Persian-speaking poets in praise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and recited them to the audience.

After each reading, there was a discussion about how the personality of the Prophet (PBUH) is represented in the poetry, the concepts and themes used, and the reason for choosing the poem in question.

This section, while providing an opportunity to practice reading and conversation in Persian, provided the ground for greater attention to the literary and semantic subtleties of Persian poetry.

Next, a clip of recitation of Rumi's Persian poems in praise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was played, and the music of the poem, poetic imagery, and the way of expressing devotion to the Prophet (PBUH) were among the topics of discussion after the screening of this work.

Another part of the program was dedicated to the screening of a short documentary about the "Thousand Drums" ritual in the Kurdish regions of Iran, in which a group of people perform the drum collectively on various cultural and religious occasions, including the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

By comparing the examples presented from Iranian culture and the cultural experience of Egypt, the participants exchanged views on the role of poetry, music, eulogies, and collective rituals in honoring the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in the two societies.
