IQNA – The Islamic Research Council of Al-Azhar in Egypt announced that the center will not issue any license to print or distribute Qurans that violate the rules of Uthmani Script approved at Al-Azhar.

It said that the center has not issued any license to print or distribute a copy of the Quran that violates the rules established and approved at Al-Azhar, Ahval website reported.
The council emphasized that Al-Azhar's method of printing Quran copies is based on adherence to the established rules of Uthmani Script that have been practiced throughout the Islamic world for centuries.
The statement from the council stated that Al-Azhar has not approved the publication of any copy of the Quran that deviates from this inherited tradition.
The council acknowledged the existence of various narrations suggesting multiple names for some of the Quran’s Surahs, and stated that its established approach is based on the rules of the Uthmani Script that have been observed from generation to generation.
The council stressed the importance of not linking the name of Al-Azhar to any matter regarding the printing or distribution of the Quran without consulting the center and verifying the authenticity of the printing of these Qurans.
This comes as social media recently witnessed a widespread controversy following media reports of plans to publish a new version of the Quran that changed the name of Surah Al-Isra to “Bani Isra’il,” and claimed that the version had been sent to Al-Azhar for approval and approval.
