Speaking to reporters in his weekly press conference on Monday, Esmail Baghaei said the military aggression launched by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran in late February is the main cause of insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is in a position of self-defense due to the ongoing naval blockade and economic war, and the action that Iran has taken in defensive strikes against US military bases or their military vessels is definitely within the framework of the inherent right of legitimate defense and in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, he stated.

Referring to the latest act of aggression taken by the US against Iran last week, which led to the martyrdom of a number of civilians, including women and children, he offered his condolences to the families of these martyrs and all the people of Iran.

Baghaei added, “Our region is in a very turbulent situation. On the one hand, we have been facing continuous US military aggression against our country for the past six months. This military aggression began on February 28, with the complicity of the Zionist regime, and has continued in various forms, including naval blockade and economic warfare.”

He said the US economic war is a new set of violent and illegal actions that are not only against one country, but against the entire international community, established principles, the sovereignty of countries, and free trade.
