Tens of Mosques Destroyed in Yemeni Capital by Saudi Arabia
According to the Awqaf and Guidance Department of Yemen’s
Sana’a province, 136 mosques have been partially or completely destroyed in the
coalition’s aggressions.
Yemen’s Sabanet website quoted Aiman Abdul Qader, the director of the department, most of these places of worship were part of Yemen’s historical and cultural heritage.
He said some of the demolished mosques, especially the al-Sana’ani Mosque, dated back to hundreds of years ago and were, therefore, of significant cultural significance.
He underlined that the Saudi-led attacks run counter to international laws.
Since March 26, 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
According to Yemeni sources, some 7500 people have been killed in the Saudi-led aggressions so far.
Most of those killed were innocent civilians, including women and children.
