Report group: The news was short, but it caused great enthusiasm among Quran activists. On the final days of the previous year, Dr Laleh Eftekhari, Tehran MP, announced the news of the Formation of the Fraction of Quran and Prophet's Progeny.
This news presaged an auspicious revelation for Quran activists who were awaiting the procrastinated Comprehensive Quranic Program, which is still to realize.

The Words of this Plan's Superintendent

I want to ask the opinion of Quran activist on this. To begin with I will ask Dr Eftekhari, who happens to have Quran by heart.

She, who is Quranic Sciences Ph.D., says: Regarding the present needs of Quranic management and after negotiations with the Cultural Commission, we decided to form the Fraction of Quran and Prophet's Progeny with the membership of 20 MPs. Referring to the goals of this fraction I have to say that systematization and synchronization of Quranic activities – in order to avoid parallel activities – and supervising Quran-related organizations, are among the main aims of this fraction.

Asking the MP about the entity and other activities of this fraction and she replied: We have talked about this issue to the Speaker of the Parliamentary, Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and the Head of the Cultural Fraction (Eng. Bahonar).
Strengthening and upholding Quranic culture, watching over the activities of the Ministry of Culture and suchlike organizations, are among our other goals.

She added: Providing the required needs to realize the present plans, legislating related Acts to materialize the decrees of the supreme leader, supervising the current Quranic programs, and establishing international Quranic relationships, are among the main objectives. We will also attempt to persuade other countries to form similar fractions, meet with Quran scholars throughout the country, and utilize the ideas of Quran experts to enhance the pervasion of Quran in the society.

The head of the Quran Fraction, holds the lack of a Quranic superintendent as the main reason for this fraction's formation.

Related to this she states: The lack of a superintendent to harmonize Quranic activities and evade the present and unnecessary parallelism, urged some MPs to pioneer in the creation of a Quranic Fraction in the parliament.

What do Quran activists have to say?

Aliasghar Borumand, the head of the Regular Forces' Quranic Center, was next interviewee.

He says: The recently-formed Parliamentary Fraction of Quran can have as its main objective, vouchsafing more privileges to the Quran experts and champions. During and a little after the imposed war it was not feasible to pay due attention to this issue; however the ground is prepared now for proper action.

Hashem Soltani, a Quran retainer, regards defending the rights of the Quranic society the most significant duty of this fraction and says: This fraction must do its best to materialize the expectations of the Quranic community. Apparently people like and admire Quran retainers, but in practice they do not receive what they deserve. For instance there has been a law according to which Quran retainers receive BA, but only if they pass MA examination and this not practical.
Dr Mas'oud Nildasti, a prominent Quran reader, says: This fraction, in collaboration with other MPs, can make effective strides in the enhancement of the Quranic culture. Unfortunately all the programs so far have been ephemeral and this fraction can obviate this problem.

The 7th parliament is a Quranic one and the MPs support any relevant activity, said Fatemeh Alia, an MP.

Concerning the Quranic Fraction she adds: All the members of the Cultural Fraction emphasize cultural deeds, as we strongly believe that our revolution was based upon Quranic culture. This was the main reason for this fraction to be formed.

She added: Some MPs have expressed their sorrow over fractionalizing Quran as they may not be able to do formal Quranic activities hence after. I myself think, as the supreme leader has reiterated, that Quran is the key to prosperity and happiness; in particular for our society that is a young one. Nevertheless I fear lest fractionalizing Quran limit related activities.

She further stated: The whole Parliament is Quranic and we must compensate for the past shortcomings by any means possible.

Expressions of ideas about this are made continuously and only time will tell what the consequences may be.
