--Students of Islamic Solidarity (SISA) recently held their annual conference at the Gambia College in Brikama.
The conference brought together college students, lecturers, scholars and stakeholders in the education sector.

SISA’s plan of action is geared towards the promotion of science, the role of women in Islam, the doctrine of Islam, as well as the significance of Salat and Tawhid, said Mamina Hydara, the Imam of the college, in his opening remarks on the occasion.

Imam Hydara said the organization’s plan of action or document would set out clearly and definitively its vision and dream for the college.

Imam Jabbie, assistant to Imam Hydara, who elaborated on the aims and objectives of SISA, said the association is out to ensure that all Muslims and Christians uphold and practice their religion rightly, adding that great significance must be given to the issue of religion and its teachings.

For his part, Dr Omar Jah, Head of Humanities Department at the University of The Gambia, said Islam and science have accepted two facts: the relationship between matter, including ourselves, and spirit.

He added that God created the heaven and the earth in truth and then created man purposely to worship Him. He therefore called on all and sundry to follow the true teaching of the Word of God.

Other speakers on the occasion, included Ajaratou Maimuna Savage of the Islamic Cultural Centre for Women and Children, Sheikh Alhagie Ndure, Mr Demba Ceesay, Registrar of the Gambia College, and Sheikh Muhammed Ghalazi Dumbuya who spoke on Tawheed - the Oneness of Allah - Who both Muslims and Christians worship.
