Indonesian President Called on Muslims Not to be Pesimistic in Facing Problems
Pekanbaru, Riau : President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on Muslims and other public communities not to be pesimistic or even desperate in face of problems now and in the future.
--The head of state made the call at Agung An-Nur mosque in Pekanbaru, Riau province, on Saturday evening, when attending an Isra Mi`raj commemoration. Isra is Prophet Muhammad`s miraculous flight from Mecca to Jerussalem, and Mi`raj is the prophet`s ascent to Heaven.
On the occasion, the president was accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Religious Affairs Minister Maftuh Basyuni and Riau Governor Rusli Zainal.
Before thousands of local people at the mosque, the head of state said Indonesia is now facing heavy trials.
He also told Muslims nationwide and in other parts of the world not to create situations which could lead to disintegration, and not to commit vandalism.
According to the president, Islam`s teachings remain relevant for the people both in the current and future life.
"Thus, we may not do nothing in face of various challenges," the president said.
The chief executive also said the government would continue making efforts to overcome various problems like poverty and unemployment and to improve the people`s welfare.
"However, the government will unlikely work alone and thus it needs supports from all the people," he said, adding that there would be no progress without concerted efforts.
