-- Criticizing the decision made by Baku’s court of appeals on destruction of Hazrat Zahra Mosque, Sheikh-ol-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, chairman of the Office of Caucasian Muftis, regarded the measure as an insult to Islam.
According to Zeynabiyeh website, Pashazadeh said,"The court's decision turned the happy day of Eid Al-Adha to a bitter one for Azerbaijani Muslims. It was an insult to Islam and Muslims' beliefs. While Muslims are worshipping God in the Grand Mosque of Mecca, destruction of a mosque in another Islamic country is unbelievable."
He had expressed his disagreement with the decision before, stressing that disrespecting holy Islamic places would hurt feelings of the world’s Muslims.
The mosque was built in Baku, capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in 1998 . The Caucasia Building Supervisory Office ruled last year that it be destroyed on the excuse that necessary legal permissions had not been obtained to build the mosque.
The decision has not been executed yet, but following strict policies taken by Azerbaijani government towards religious issues, the court of appeals confirmed the permission for destruction of the mosque.
