The silence of Tunisia’s Ennahda-led government toward Wahabism is the reason behind the spread of terrorism in the country.
This is according to Farid Al-Baji, head of Tunisia’s Dar-ul-Hadith Center who made the remark in reaction to the country’s Mufti Hamda Saeed who had said the spread of terrorism in the North African country was due to the actions of the first president of the country Habib Bourguiba.
Al-Baji said the current government has paved the way for Wahabis preachers to propagate their extremist ideology and thus open the way for spread of violence and terrorism.
Mohsen Marzouq who is a member of the Voice of Tunisia Party was another political figure who reacted to Saeed’s remarks, saying that the country’s youth should not be allowed to follow Salafists and get involved in terrorist activities.
These statements come as news has spread about the presence of Tunisian youth and women in Syria to take part in suicide attacks against the Syrian government.
