Iran, WCC Interfaith Dialogue Planned

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 8th edition of the interfaith dialogue between Iran and the World Council of Churches (WCC) will be held on November 16 and 17 in Geneva, Switzerland.


According to the website of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), “Religion’s Approaches to Peace and Oppose Violence and Conflicts” is the title of this edition of the dialogue.





Ali Mohammad Helmi, the head of the Center for Interfaith Dialogue affiliated to ICRO, Abdul Rahim Govahi, the head of the World Religions Research Center,  Mohammad Ali Shomali, the head of the Islamic Center of London, and head of the International Institute of Islamic Studies in the holy city of Qom will participate in the program.





Representatives of Christianity in the program will include Clare Amos, the WCC programme executive for inter-religious dialogue, Jean-Claude Basset, Pastor and former Lecturer at the Theology Faculty of the University of Lausanne, Bonnie Evans-Hills, the Interfaith Adviser to the Bishop of Leicester, and a number of other religious and academic figures.





“Religious dialogues, an approach to peace and fighting extremism”, “influential factors in creation and continuation of violence (in the Middle East)”, “relief efforts needed for the victims of violence”, “features of Shia Islam which prevents violence” are the theme of the papers to be presented by Muslim scholars in the program.





“Spirituality and Modernity” was the theme of the 7th edition of the dialogue held at the Center for Interfaith Dialogue in 2014.
