According to the website of the organizing committee, the first edition of Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Holy Quran Competition will kick off in Dubai on Sunday with the participation of female Quran memorizers from 72 countries.
The contestants are from 19 Arab countries as well as 15 European, 23 African, 12 Asian and 3 Latin American countries.
They will compete in memorization of the entire Holy Quran.
Quran masters from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Jordan, Algeria and Egypt make up the panel of judges while three female Quran experts will assess the contenders’ Quranic skills before the competition to make sure they are qualified to attend the event.
9-year-old Iranian Quran memorizer Hannaneh Khalafi will represent the Islamic Republic at the competition.
Hannaneh, accompanied by her mother, left Tehran for Dubai on Thursday.
She learned the entire Quran by heart at the age of 7 and came first in Iran’s national Quran competition in 2014.
