TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iranian scholar and Quranic researcher has started working on a new translation of the Holy Quran in English.
Iranian Scholar Translating Quran into English

Mehdi Kafi has so far written or translated 65 books in English. They include the Nahj-ul-Balaqa, Sahifeh Sajjadiyeh and books on Islam and the Islamic Revolution.

He began translating the Quran into English a few months ago, on the 13th day of the lunar month of Rajab (April 21), which marks the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS).

His translation is based on a Persian rendering of the Holy Book by Qom-based scholar and source of emulation grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi.

Mr. Kafi says he trusts the Persian translation and the vast Quranic and Islamic knowledge of the translator and that is why he has based his rendering on Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi’s work.

He says while there are many English translations of the Quran by native and non-native speakers of the language, including Iranians, Arabs, Pakistanis, Indians, British and Americans, there is still need for more work in the field.
