According to hqmi.org.sa website, the Quran Association of Italy organized the Quranic event, in which men and women competed in two separate sections for the top prizes.

The categories of the contest were memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of 15, 10, 5, and 3 Juzes (parts) of the Quran and memorization of one Juz.

Prominent Egyptian Qari Ahmed Issa al-Misarawi, a former Sheikh ul-Qura (top Quran memorizer) of Egypt, was among the participants at the awarding ceremony.

Also present were prayer leaders of a number of Italy’s mosques and Islamic centers.

Speakers at the closing ceremony urged the contenders to continue the path of learning and memorizing the Quran and make efforts to act upon the teachings of the Holy Quran.

They also hailed the progress of Quranic activities and competitions in Italy.

The number of Muslims living in Italy is estimated to be around 1.6 million, meaning it has the fourth largest Muslim population in Europe. Yet there are only eight official mosques in the country. It is thought to be the second most followed faith in the Roman Catholic country.
