TEHRAN (IQNA) – The final stage of a competition for choosing Iraq’s representatives in international Quranic events was held on Wednesday.

Titled al-Nukhba al-Qurania (the Quranic elites), the national Quran competition had kicked off in the holy city of Al-Kadhimiya, north of Baghdad, on Sunday.

A number of top Quran reciters and memorizers from different parts of the country took part in the competition, organized by the National Quranic Sciences Center affiliated to the Iraqi Shias Awqaf Department.

According to Qaaf news agency, at the end of the four-day event, Marwan Awad Jihad from the province of Basra, Moheeb Muhammad from Diyala and Mustafa Tahseen Ali from Baghdad respectively won the top three titles in the category of memorization of the Holy Quran.

In recitation, the top three winners were Falah Zalif Atya from Muthanna, Laith Rahim from Diwaniya and Qassim Yasub from Babil.

The six contenders who bagged the first to third ranks in the two categories will compete for Iraq in international Quran competitions.
