TEHRAN (IQNA) – Some 70 countries have been invited to send their representatives to the fifth edition of the international Quran competition for Muslim students, an Iranian official said.

Speaking to the Quran Radio, Baqeri, a Quranic official with the Education Ministry, said 20 countries have so far confirmed their participation in the upcoming Quranic event.

The competition will be held concurrent with the auspicious occasion of Bi’that (call to Prophethood), which falls in late April, he said, adding that the closing ceremony of the weeklong event is slated for April 27.

Baqeri added that Quran experts from Iran and other countries are going to be invited to form the panel of judges.

He noted that recitation and memorization of the entire Holy Quran are the categories of the contest.

According to the official, Iran’s representatives in the competition have been selected after several rounds of competitions at the schools, cities, provinces and national levels.

He said the 5th edition of the international Quran competition for school students will be held in Tehran in cooperation with the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization.

Baqeri went on to say that the contest is aimed at promoting the Quranic culture among school students.
