The theme of the occasion is "The Muslim Next Door," and events throughout the week are aimed at helping non-Muslim students interact with their Islam-practicing peers.

The weeklong celebration began Monday with "Meet a Muslim" through a game of Jeopardy on the Memorial Student Center Plaza and a "Kickoff with Kickball" on Buskirk Field.

On Tuesday, the MSA hosted "Coexist with Cold Treats," passing out Popsicles and other frozen sweet treats in the Memorial Student Center.

Islam Appreciation Week will continue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, with "Herd in Hijab," which has become a semi-annual event on campus when Muslim students wrap scarves as hijabs around female students' heads in a sign of solidarity and support.

On Thursday, April 13, students will host a "Baklava and Brownies" bake sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Memorial Student Center, and "I want her story HERD," a Muslim women at Marshall panel discussion will be at 7 p.m. in the Smith Hall Auditorium.

On Friday, April 14, the association will host a mosque open house and question-and-answer session from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Islamic Center of Huntington at 944 20th Street, Huntington.
