Int’l Quran Competitions Venues for Enhancing Muslim Unity

Wuzah Yahya Haith al-Yamani, who took part in the second international Quran competition for the visually-impaired in Tehran, told IQNA that such contests also contribute to promotion of Quranic activities.

The contest for the visually-impaired, specifically, encourages the blind to put more efforts into learning the Quran and making progress in Quran recitation and memorization, he added.

Al-Yamani said he started learning the Quran by heart at the age of 11 thanks to his mother’s encouragement.

"She signed me up in a Quran course held in a mosque. I first would go there once a week but later went to the class every day until I managed to memorize the entire Quran with the help of my teacher Sheikh Hussein bin Ali Sharefeddin.”

Al-Yamani noted that he has taken part in a number of international Quran competitions in different countries, including Libya, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and has won the first title in the Libya competition.

He has also studied Quranic sciences and graduated from a Quranic college in Yemen.

The second international Quran competition for the visually-impaired was held in the Iranian capital last week along with four other international Quran contests, including those for women, school students and seminary students.
