TEHRAN (IQNA) – A nationwide Quran competition for kids is underway in Qatar’s capital of Doha.

More than 2000 boys and girls from different cities of the Persian Gulf Arab country are taking part in the contest, al-Sharq newspaper reported.

A mosque in the capital is hosting the competition for boys while girls’ contest is underway in a Doha Quranic center.

They compete in different categories of memorization of the Quran.

There are 30 Quran experts in the contest’s panel of judges.

According to Sultan al-Badr, a member of the organizing committee, it is annually held in the first week of the holy month of Ramadan.

He said encouraging children to learn and memorize the Quran and identifying Quranic talents are some of the objectives of the competition.

During Ramadan, the month of the Quran, various Quranic programs, including Quran competitions, are held in Muslim countries and Islamic communities across the world.
