Quran A Major Source for Understanding Universal Values: German Imam
Speaking to radio channel Deutschland Funkkultur, Benjamin Idriz said some of the verses of the Holy Quran should be interpreted and understood based on the conditions of the time of revelation.
He noted that interpreting the Quran is not something for everyone to do but it requires expertise.
He also said the Quran is in eloquent Arabic and recitation of the Quran attracts Muslims and even non-Muslims who may not even understand the meanings of the verses.
Idriz, who has read the Quran since the age of eleven, said the Holy Book is a lively conversation between God and human beings.
Some may think the Quran does not provide answer to all questions today, he said, adding that it has properly explained individual and social values and called on all human beings for more reflections.
This divine book can be a source of inspiration in life for all human beings, he stressed.
Idriz added that Islam is a universal religion and verses of its Holy Book have message for all of the world.
Some of those messages are about freedom, peace, equality, fighting poverty and protecting the environment, the imam of Islamic community in Penzberg went on to say.
