The Iranian Cultural Center in Tanzania held the contest in cooperation with al-Istiqama Institute on February 9-11.

Quran reciters and memorizers from different parts of the country took part in the contest to secure a place in Iran’s international Quranic event.

A number of political and cultural figures, including Tanzania’s former vice president and Iran’s ambassador and cultural attache were present at the closing ceremony on Saturday.

At the end of the competition, Abdul Hamid Masoud and Adam Juma were introduced as Tanzania’s representatives in the memorization and recitation categories of the Iranian Quranic contest.

In the women’s section, Arefah bint Hussein and Suria Ali will compete for Tanzania in recitation and memorization, respectively.

In Tanzania, Islam is the religion of about 35 percent of the population. On the mainland, Muslim communities are concentrated in coastal areas, with some large Muslim majorities also in inland urban areas especially and along the former caravan routes. More than 99 percent of the population of the Zanzibar archipelago is Muslim.

The 34th edition of Iran’s international Holy Quran competition will be held in the capital, Tehran, in late April.
