TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) will launch a radio channel named “Arbaeen Radio” in a ceremony on Sunday.

It will broadcast programs on the Arbaeen pilgrimage 24/7, Hamed Fatehi, public relations officer of the IRIB Radio said.

He added that Arbaeen Radio seeks to present a unique account of the millions-strong gathering pilgrims in the Arbaeen marches.

Promoting the culture of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) and covering the events related to the Arbaeen pilgrimage are among the objectives of the radio, he added.

Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

Arbaeen falls on October 19 this year.
