The holy mausoleum of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Iraq, is expected to receive some 2 million pilgrims on Eid al-Qadir, which falls on Monday.

The Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine has made all the preparations for receiving the devotees of the first Imam (AS) on the auspicious occasion, Bilad News quoted Ali Khazir Haji, a member of the Astan’s executive board, as saying.
According to Osama al-Baghdadi, another official of the Astan, different sections of the holy shrine have been adorned with over 30,000 flowers of different kinds delivered from Iran.
Meanwhile, Miqdad al-Mousawi, an official with Najaf Police Department, said a special security plan is going to be carried out in the following days to ensure security for the pilgrims.
Eid al-Qadir, which falls on Monday, October 13, this year, is the commemoration of a historic day in Islam. 14 centuries ago, on the 18th of month of Zi al-Hajjah, on his way back from his last Hajj pilgrimage, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) received a revelation from God, ordering him to halt the pilgrims at a pond called Qadir Khum, and to designate Ali ibn Abi-Taleb (AS) as his successor in guiding and ruling Muslims.
This day is celebrated by many Muslims around the world and many Shia Muslims go on pilgrimage to the holy city of Najaf to celebrate the occasion.
